October 8th 12:30, I arrived at MYSIA 3. So excited. Preparations are on the way. I can smell fresh white paint the air. For the first time in my photography life, I will hold a vernissage (one day exhibition) of my project, the Cultural Landscape of Warsaw. Excitement is at its peak. I start unpacking my 55 large (80x60cm) prints. For the first time, I see them lying around this fantastic space, waiting to be hanged on white walls. A few hours later, everything is setup. I am sitting in the middle and start to feel something that I don't recognize in my collection of lifetime experiences. This feeling is new to me. I am enjoying it a lot. Surrounded by 55 beautiful portraits of amazing people, I feel that the room begins to fill with positive energy. I feel like staying here but it's soon time to go home. I manage a few hours of rest before the big day;
I am in bed, trying to sleep, I can't. My mind is running through endless versions of my opening speech… finally, I begin falling asleep… but it's time to wake up.
October 9th, early afternoon, the press day. Ok, this is a warm-up before the evening! I took a few portraits for journalists to give them a glimpse of what all the participants experienced during the process.
Times was flying ... it’s finally evening..
Ok, this is it. The moment I’ve been waiting for… hmmm, I start thinking what if no one shows up…. don't be silly Dobrowolski ;).
19:00, people start arriving. The crowd is getting bigger. Time to open the vernissage. Joanna is passing me the microphone and begins her speech. We agree that she will speak in Polish, and I will speak in English. I barely remember what I said, I was in the zone. I think it went well, people were clapping. The show begins. I hope I spoke with everyone, and answered all the questions and take dozens of selfies. Finally, the man behind the camera stands in front. :)
That was an unforgettable evening and experience. Full of happiness, good vibes, positive energy, and love. I am overwhelmed by the response I received. I can proudly say that I have achieved more than I dreamed of.
I have enormous gratitude and thanks for every participant who took time to be a part of it. I am fortunate to receive such positive feedback for this project. I am thankful for everyone who I met during this process for every comment, piece of advice, help, and smile I received. It has been a privilege to work on this project.
Thank you, Joanna and Adam, from MYSIA 3 for making my dream come true.
Thank you, Tonia, for kicking my ass to not give up on the project. ;)
Thank you, everyone, who came to the vernissage and made the evening an exceptional and unforgettable experience.
Respect, love, peace, and smile… Smile every day to everyone.
